Dear East Jordan Public Schools Families and Community,

As many of you know, this winter brought a significant number of weather-related school cancellations that required us to make adjustments to our calendar in order to meet state instructional requirements. Throughout this process, our goal has remained the same: to fulfill our obligations while also being mindful of the impact calendar changes have on our students, families, and staff.

Recently, Governor Whitmer signed House Bill 5797 into law, providing schools with additional flexibility regarding forgiven instructional time due to weather-related closures. As a result of this new legislation, East Jordan Public Schools will be able to adjust our previously revised end-of-year calendar.

After reviewing the updated guidance and considering the needs of our students, families, and staff, the district will implement the following schedule adjustments:

Wednesday, June 10 will remain a full day of school.
Thursday, June 11 will now be a half day for students.
School on Friday, June 12 has been canceled.

As part of our earlier efforts to recover instructional time, the district had already added full instructional days on April 17 and May 22, and previously extended June 10 and June 11 to full days while adding June 12 to the calendar. This updated plan allows us to roll back part of those changes while still meeting all required obligations.

We understand that calendar adjustments create real challenges for families. Changes to work schedules, daycare arrangements, transportation, and family plans are significant matters that affect many households. Please know these are decisions we do not take lightly. Providing timely notice and clear communication is important to us, and we are working to share these updates as quickly and thoughtfully as possible so families can plan accordingly.

Our schools are also adjusting end-of-year schedules to align with these calendar changes:

The Middle/High School is developing a revised schedule for final exams and end-of-year activities, which will be communicated to families soon.
The Elementary School will likewise adjust and communicate end-of-year events and activities in the coming days.
We appreciate the patience, flexibility, and support our families and community continue to show throughout a school year that has required many adjustments. We remain committed to finishing the year strong while doing what we believe best serves our students, staff, and families.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of East Jordan Public Schools.

Sincerely,
Enos M. Bacon III

East Jordan Public Schools is proud to share the following community update, submitted by Cynthia Pepin, Behavioral Health Director at the East Jordan Family Health Center:

East Jordan and Bellaire Family Health Centers are introducing new flag disposal boxes, thoughtfully designed and built by the advanced welding students in the Career Tech program at East Jordan Middle/High School.

Under the leadership of welding instructor Dave Muladore, students Konyr Lewin, Mason Shiers, and Jonny Cosier took the lead on this project—applying their skills in a real-world setting while serving their community in a meaningful and patriotic way.

Each student brought a strong sense of purpose to the work:

Mason plans to continue his welding education and pursue advanced certifications.
Jonny has developed practical skills he uses daily, including work on his family’s farm.
Konyr values welding as a way to maintain and repair essential equipment, building independence and efficiency.

With additional support from Toby Prevo Residential Services for painting, these flag disposal boxes now provide a respectful and accessible way for community members to retire worn American flags.

This project reflects what we value most—students applying their learning, strong community partnerships, and service that makes a difference.

We are grateful to Cynthia Pepin for sharing this story, and we commend Mr. Muladore and his students for representing East Jordan Public Schools with pride.

Red Devil Proud.

Dear East Jordan Families,

As we begin planning for the 2026–2027 school year, I wanted to provide a brief update on our school calendar.

This is a bargaining year for the district, and the full calendar will be finalized through that process in the coming weeks. At the same time, we recognize that many of our families are already making plans for next year—whether that be summer schedules, vacations, or other commitments. We value that partnership and want to be as helpful and transparent as possible as you begin planning ahead.

With that in mind, I am able to share a couple of key anchor points:

School breaks will align with the ISD common calendar, providing consistency with surrounding districts. This includes Christmas Break (December 19, 2026 – January 1, 2027) and Spring Break (March 26, 2027 – April 5, 2027).

The projected first day of school for students is Thursday, August 27, 2026 which aligns with our recent practice of beginning the school year prior to Labor Day.

While the remainder of the calendar is still being finalized, we wanted to provide these dates now to give families some level of certainty as you begin to plan.

We will share the complete school calendar as soon as it is finalized. Thank you for your continued support, flexibility, and partnership in helping us best serve our students.

Sincerely,

Many of our families have recently received absentee ballots for the upcoming Career & Technical Education (CTE) millage.

At East Jordan Public Schools, this work is about preparing students not just for graduation, but for what comes next.

A significant number of our students engage in hands-on, career-focused learning through programs such as CAD, woodworking, automotive technology, welding, business management and operations, accounting, and marketing. These experiences help students build practical skills, develop confidence, and better understand their future pathways.

This is where learning becomes real.

Programs like these require specialized equipment, materials, and instruction beyond the traditional classroom. For years, our community has supported these opportunities, recognizing their value for our students and for the future of our community.

In addition to what we offer here in East Jordan, students also have access to programs across the ISD, expanding opportunities even further.

At its core, this is about ensuring that every student has access to meaningful, relevant learning experiences that align with their strengths and goals.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Dear East Jordan Families,

This winter brought extended periods of snow, ice, and extreme conditions that required us to close school more often than planned in order to keep students and staff safe.

Michigan schools are provided with six forgiven snow days each year. This winter, we were also granted three additional forgiven days by the state. Even with that flexibility, we exceeded the allowable number of closures and are required to make up instructional time.

As a result, we have made the following adjustments to our school calendar:

April 17 – Full day of school
May 22 – Full day of school (added)
June 10 – Full day of school
June 11 – Full day of school
June 12 – Half day of school (last day for students)

These changes allow us to meet state requirements while maintaining as much consistency in the calendar as possible.

We understand that calendar adjustments can impact family schedules, and we appreciate your flexibility and support. As always, our decisions are guided by student safety and our responsibility to provide meaningful instructional time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the district office.

Sincerely,
Enos M. Bacon III
